Maureen Horgan Counseling
My Irish born parents raised my siblings and me just outside of New York city. I like to believe I’ve effectively merged the best of both coasts - my style brings elements of deep listening and direct communication wrapped in a blanket of compassion and hope.
I incorporate a "strength-based approach" to therapy that utilizes your skills, traits and patterns of thought and behavior that are positive and to your benefit. Whatever obstacle or challenge you may be facing; I believe you inherently can address your challenges and lead a content, meaningful life.

Some people come to therapy with very specific goals. Others come knowing they want something to be different and are seeking support in sorting what the “different” is that they are seeking. Together we determine if we’re the right fit, develop a plan and begin the journey.
Sessions provided via telehealth & limited in person session options.

My training and experience utilize brief evidenced based approaches and psychodynamic approaches. I incorporate the lens of "brain science" when appropriate, and believe the human body is incredibly resilient and can adapt and change.

I have 24 years of post graduate experience working with individuals and families in a variety of settings. This includes work as a medical social worker, grief counselor, healthcare administrator, trainer and therapist.
I support adults living with depression, anxiety, challenges with life transitions such as career stress and change, family structural changes and relationship challenges.
Specialized Expertise
Supporting people grieving a wide range of losses with special expertise in child death, perinatal death, spousal death, infidelity and divorce.
Managind caregiver stress, managing chronic illness, adjusting to a new medical diagnosis and end of life decision making and support.
Supporting professionals in the medical setting is an area of focus that is especially important to me given increasing strains the medical community is facing with staffing shortages and high levels of moral distress.
I live in Seattle with my black lab, Shanny B. I worked for over a decade with a therapy dog and have volunteered in raising future service dogs. My greatest teachers have been children who I supported who were living into their death and children grieving the death of an important person in their life.
The work we may engage in is important, and I consider it a privilege to walk beside you in this living.
